PRO Steer saves a lot more than money!

Wudinna, South Australia, May 2005: Dean Waters and his sons Tristan and Bryce Waters are among the many farmers taking up assisted steering across Australia. Cropping 13 000 acres in Wudinna South Australia, the family farm mainly wheat, barley and legumes.

For the past four years, the Waters have been using the X20® Guidance system and expanding their collection of Topcon Precision Agriculture® products ever since. They now operate a brand new John Deere 9520 seeding unit fitted with the newest product in the X20 range, PRO Steer®, with OmniSTAR HP signal.

They also run Variable rate control through the Flexicoil Air Cart towing a 62.25 ft PTX600 CASE cultivator as well as a CASE CVX 170 Front wheel assist towing a Hardi commander S6036 boom spray fitted with PRO Steer using OmniSTAR sub-metre VBS signal.

Tristan believes that the major advantage of using Topcon Precision Agriculture products is the ability to save, and not just on money: "you save a lot of time, you save chemicals and you save stress!" he said.

"We can spray in any conditions; at night or in dust. It's all so easy to use, the ability to swap and change functions or paddocks and then come back later without having to pick a white spot in a paddock, and the ease of operating the boom spray with auto shut off, that all makes farming less stressful."

Not only does the X20 and in particular, PRO Steer, make farming easier, according to the Waters it will also markedly increase your bank balance.

"The main saving is in chemical bills, especially in the larger paddocks (sometimes up to 1000 acres). We estimate a saving of 10% to 15% in chemicals", says Tristan. "With PRO Steer we will completely eliminate overlap. Combined with the ability to work up and back we should save between fifteen and twenty grand [this year]", he said.

It's no secret that any assisted steering system will save farmers money, so what makes X20 so special?

"PRO Steer has the ability to hook into any tractor, which was one of the main reasons we went with X20, it can talk to just about anything," says Tristan.

Throughout the four years the Waters have been using Topcon products, both the technologies' performance as well as the service provided by the company have been rated as 'excellent' and they have no regrets regarding the investment which Tristan believes will definitely pay for itself.

Tristan summed up the families' opinion of Topcon and more specifically PRO Steer by saying,
