X20: "Its the best system"

Balaklava, South Australia, March 2005: Widely recognized as one of SA's leading farmers in terms of Precision Agriculture, the introduction of Auto Steering hasn't left Brett Roberts behind.

Farming 3000 Hectares in the Balaklava region of South Australia, Brett has been using Topcon Precision Agriculture equipment since their infancy as a small business in the Clare Valley.

"I've been using Topcon products since Topcon started up. That's 20 years or more. My first product was a Mark 1 spray controller that I still have," Brett said.

In what has become a competitive and continually developing industry, it can be difficult to stay at the forefront, however Topcon have now securely established themselves as the leaders in Precision Agriculture.

When asked what attracted him to Topcon Precision Agriculture and what was then the Lynx (now X20) console, Brett answered frankly; "It's just generally recognized as the best system."

"It saves me tens of thousands of dollars a year. It's all about accurate application," he said. Brett continued, "It's the best system, for me especially, because it's local and it's easily updated. Plus you get follow up services."

Brett now has 3 X20 systems, one with RTK on his air seeder to control seeding and spraying; one on his sprayer used as a spray controller with auto steer and another used simply for guidance.

Brett is also one of the first to purchase the latest product to the Topcon line up - Pro steer auto steering. Brett uses this system on his sprayer.

Perhaps one of the greatest benefits of the X20 system is the ability to work day or night in wind, dust and fog: "The guidance helps you drive. You can drive at night and dusk; all the monitoring systems are in one box controlled by a touch screen."

Brett has been using automated steering systems for a year now and says the benefits are already clear, "There's less operator fatigue and no overlaps. Auto Steer definitely made seeding a lot easier this season; the system will definitely pay for itself."

While Brett has been a loyal customer himself for the past 20 years he has also been attempting to expand Topcon's customer base. When asked if he would recommend Topcon's products to others his response was simple, "I already do."
