Jannie and Kobus are near the towns Swellendam and Heidelberg in the Western Cape of South Africa, a winter rainfall area similar to the wheat-belt in Western and Southern Australia. Planting crops like wheat, barley, oats, canola, and lucerne and also breeding ostriches, the Baard's use a DBS Multistream Airseeder built by Agri-Phyto in Albertinia under license from AUSPLOW, a Western Australian manufacturer of high-precision seeding equipment. The five tank airseeder has 4 x 2000 litre tanks and 1 x 280 litre tank. The first two tanks are dedicated to dry fertilizer or seed, the third tank can be swapped between dry and liquid fertilizer, the fourth tank is dedicated for chemical spraying and the fifth tank is for fine seeds.
Christo Helm, South African Manager said, "Jannie and Kobus really find the fifth tank enhances their flexibility in planting. Like many other farmers and contract planters and applicators around the world our customers are often confronted with different situations on each farm or from field-to-field or even in different planting rotations. Jannie and Kobus also find the X20 to be very user friendly and easy-to-use. They also use the X20 to automatically log the application data, maps and details of each job enabling recording of the precision application of seed, fertilizer and chemicals."
